In 1964, Prof. Dr. Domingos Galo assumed the Chair of Entomology creating the Department of Entomology. The union with the Department of Phytopathology originated the Department of Entomology, Phytopathology and Agricultural Zoology. The Department of Entomology and Acarology (LEA) resulted from the separation in 2009.
 
The Graduate Program in Entomology (PPG) was created by the Department of Entomology of ESALQ / USP in 1968, initially with the Master's degree and from 1972 with the Doctoral Degree, with the main objective being the training of human resources of High level for teaching and research in Agricultural Entomology, with emphasis on Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
